VANESSA

GONZALEZ

Vanessa was raised in Salinas, California, where her grandfather and parents were farmworkers in the Salinas Valley. Through her family and mentors, Vanessa learned the importance to fight against injustices by taking the time to build community's trust and bring a chair to the table at places that need representation.

Vanessa brings over five years of experience in government and community organizing to the Mayor’s team. Prior to joining the City, Vanessa worked for the California State Senate and Assembly with Senator Anna M. Caballero, overseeing Monterey and San Benito County. She has supported policy-making in public safety, veteran affairs, economic development, and health care.

Vanessa is an alumna of Sacramento State University, was Vice President of University Affairs for Associated Student Inc. and is passionate about advocating for the criminal justice system, access to health care, safe and nutritious food, and housing.

In her free time, she enjoys hiking, traveling, and being outdoors.
